09.45 Common Coding Standards In The NHS - Where Patient Safety Meets Commerce

The Department of Health in the UK recommends that the GS1 coding standards should be adopted throughout the healthcare system in England, both for manufactured products and for coding systems used within the healthcare settings. This policy is supported by the NHS Procurement eEnablement Programme, of which a key aim is to establish common coding standards across the NHS supply chain. This presentation will look at how the NHS is working with GS1 UK to achieve this and realise benefits for patient safety.
